Hi my plane doesn't land until 00:04 in HCMC. Will the visa on landing be still open?

At Vietnam airports Immigration Officers work 24/7. You can get Vietnam visa stamped any time you land.

Is the visa desk at Vietnam airport open all hours? I'm due to arrive at 20:00 and my partner is due to arrive at 21:30. Is this all really straightforward or do problems occur?

Do not worry, at airport, Immigration Officers' duty is to stamp Vietnam visa for those that have Vietnam visa approval letter. Any time you arrive, you will get visa

At Vietnam airport, Officers work 24/7.
You can get visa whenever you arrive.
For visa for 2 year old child, you have to apply visa for him/her. This is regulation to prevent children trafficking.

Just wanted to check something out - the Vietnam embassy page doesn't specify any cost for an advance visa but asks you to contact them and they will email you the cost.
We did and received an email back from a yahoo email address saying for a 30 day multi-entry tourist visa would be £75 for the regular service visa, £105 for next day service.
This seemed a little expensive and I am a bit concerned that the email came from a yahoo account. Has anyone paid this recently for a visa in advance?
I know we can go for the VOA but we land late and a few people on some forums have complained about the queues in high season (we travel in Nov) for VOA.

Don't worry about your landing time, Immigration Officers works as long as airport operating. In November is high season, it might take long in day time but you arrive late so you can get visa quickly.
