Do we need a Vietnam visa to get onto Phu Quoc?

Hi all,
I'm an Aussie, and just sussing out a trip to Cambodia in Feb.
At this stage, we are thinking of flying from KL to Phnom Penh, then working our way down to Sihanoukville, across to Kep/Kampot and then heading to Phu Quoc.
Do we need a Vietnam visa to get onto Phu Quoc, if we are coming from Cambodia?
If so, we might as well make the most of it and fly out to KL from Ho Chi Minh.
But if it's not necessary, maybe we'd be better to just fly back to KL from PP and avoid Vietnam altogether.
Any help much appreciated!
