Vietnam Visa with incorrect departure date - problem?

Unread postby Vangtican » Tue Aug 26, 2014 9:08 am

We chickened out of the VOA process and applied for a visa through the standard embassy line.
Problem is that our visas have just come back with an incorrect departure date OUT of Vietnam. It has the visa expiring one day before our flight out. Frustrating given that we had sent our flight itinerary with our application!
I'm guess this is because we are staying 31 days. We have been issued a 30 day visa.
We are leaving in 10 days time, so no time to return it to the embassy.
Is this a problem?
Are we likely to have problems (or fines) leaving the country?

It should not be a problem. Once you stay in Vietnam, you can extend your visa by visiting Vietnam Immigration Department or ask some local travel agent for help. If you have only 1 day overstay get penalty is better solution, some travelers said 1 day overstay is worth $5

My son is in the countryside in Vietnam and has just realised his visa runs out over this weekend. He will get to Hanoi on Sunday. Where is the best place to get a visa extention on Monday and what is likely to be the penalty for the 2 day overrun please? He plans to leave Vietnam for Laos at the end of the week.
Thankyou

2 days overstaying migh be fined $20 at airport, it is much better than extend visa as they will keep your passport 1 week before your visa invalid.
