Chinese Visa

Hello, I'm planning a trip to Vietnam and I will be on a flight to Guangzhou from Vancouver (13:25hr flight) and will have to wait 5 hours @ Guangzhou. My question is will I need a visa (transit visa, airside transit visa, etc) to PASS the immigration/custom check & will I need a visa to hop onto my next plane to Vietnam? My last question is will I have to go through customs/ immigrations??? Thank you so much!
